What Is Neurotoxin (Botox)?

Neurotoxin (Botox) is a pure form of botulinum toxin type A. The botulinum toxin is derived from bacteria Clostridium botulinum. The purified and diluted form of botox is used by trained professionals for medical and aesthetic procedures.

This treatment reduces the occurrence of facial wrinkles and fine lines. However, it can be utilised to address other conditions such as muscle spasms, migraines, excess sweating (hyperhidrosis), and certain neurological disorganisations.

What Is Neurotoxin (Botox) Effective For?

WRINKLES AND FINE LINES

Neurotoxin (Botox) is used to soften the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines around the facial areas. It is used to treat dynamic wrinkles caused by repetitive muscle movements, such as frown lines, forehead lines, and crow’s feet.

HYPERHIDROSIS

It has been discovered that Neurotoxin (Botox) is beneficial in treating hyperhidrosis, a condition that causes profuse sweating. The botox is typically administered on the feet.

CROW’S FEET

Neurotoxin (Botox) injections around the eyes can help reduce the appearance of crow’s feet, which are wrinkles that form at the corners of the eyes.

FOREHEAD LINES

Neurotoxin (Botox) is commonly used to smooth horizontal lines on the forehead caused by repetitive muscle contractions.

GLABELLAR LINES

Glabellar lines, often referred to as “11 lines” or frown lines between the eyebrows, can be effectively treated with Botox. The Neurotoxin relaxes the muscles responsible for creating these lines.

MIGRAINE

Neurotoxin (Botox) is an FDA-approved treatment for chronic migraines in adults. It is administered as a series of injections around the head and neck to reduce the frequency and severity of migraines.

TEETH GRINDING/JAW CLENCHING

Botox helps prevent the excessive grinding and clenching of teeth by reducing the activity of masseter muscles. This can alleviate the symptoms associated with bruxism, such as jaw pain, headaches, and tooth damage.

HOW DOES NEUROTOXIN (BOTOX) WORK?

Neurotoxin (Botox) works by temporarily impairing nerve signals in the muscles where it is injected. It inhibits acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that is crucial to provide signals between the cells and muscles. This causes Botox to create a brief paralysis or relaxation of the targeted muscles by interfering with this signalling pathway.

Dynamic wrinkles, which occur due to repeated muscular movements, are frequently treated with neurotoxins, or Botox, in cosmetic applications. The injection helps minimise wrinkles and fine lines on the skin’s surface by relaxing the underlying muscles. Moreover, it is used for a number of medical conditions, including hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), migraines, muscle spasms, and overactive bladder.

WHAT IS NEUROTOXIN (BOTOX) EFFECTIVE FOR?

Neurotoxin (Botox) offers several cosmetic and health benefits. Here are several reasons why individuals may benefit from this treatment:

WRINKLE REDUCTION

Neurotoxin (Botox) is used to minimise the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, especially those resulting from repetitive muscle movements, otherwise known as dynamic wrinkles. This also includes forehead lines, crow’s feet, and frown lines.

PREVENTATIVE MEASURES

Some individuals choose to use Neurotoxin (Botox) preventatively to minimise the development of new wrinkles. By temporarily relaxing muscles, it can help prevent the formation of lines caused by facial expressions.

QUICK AND CONVENIENT

Neurotoxin (Botox) procedures are typically quick, often ttaking just a few minutes, making it suitable for those with a busy lifestyle.

VERSATILITY

Neurotoxin (Botox) is versatile and can be used to address various areas of the face, including the forehead, between the eyebrows, and around the eyes. It can also be used for other cosmetic and medical purposes.

NATURAL RESULTS

Our doctor will administer the treatment accordingly to provide natural-looking results. The goal is often to achieve a refreshed appearance without a frozen or unnatural look.

ADJUNCT TO OTHER TREATMENT

Neurotoxin (Botox) can be used in conjunction with other cosmetic treatments, such as dermal fillers, for a comprehensive approach to facial rejuvenation.

MESOBOTOX

Mesobotox, also known as Micro-Botox or Intradermal Botox, is a procedure that involves injecting small doses of botulinum toxin (commonly Botox) into the superficial layers of the skin. Unlike traditional Botox injections that target deeper muscles to reduce wrinkles, Mesobotox is intended to improve skin texture, reduce skin oiliness, reduce pore size, and provide an overall rejuvenating effect on the skin.

What are the different types of Neurotoxin (BOTOX) in Singapore?

All three of these neurotoxins (BOTOX, DYSPORT & XEOMIN) are great for dynamic lines that are caused by movements such as: crinkling your eyes, raising your eyebrows, dimpling your chin, or smiling. When we move our facial muscles, fine lines and wrinkles appear as a result.

While all three neurotoxins are similar in their makeup and function, they have slight differences. The formulation of Xeomin differs slightly from the others as it contains no additives and varies slightly in the appearance of results. The effects of Botox spread three to five days after treatment when the full effects are seen. Xeomin can take even longer, with full results in roughly five to seven days. Dysport, or abobotulinumtoxin A, is the option where results in the target areas will be seen most rapidly, with visible results within one to two days after treatment.

Xeomin and Dysport treatment also have greater diffusion than Botox, which allows them to reduce the appearance of wrinkles over a larger area. Botox is much more targeted and one of the most effective treatments for severe wrinkles in the forehead and glabellar lines.
